Synopsis
The story starts with Ness having a vision of his home, his parents, his dog and himself at the time he was a baby. He then arrives in Magicant. He notices he is naked until he is told by Tomato to put on some clothes as it wasn't Japan. Ness then talks with the memories of his sister and mother. As they explain they are the memories of the time he last seen them, Ness comments about the fact that his dad is not around makes sense. After Ness has a confusing conversation with Tracy, he meets with King as a puppy. Despite Ness' wishes that Tracy doesn't tell him about King, she does tell him that King is indeed dead.
As he continue to explore his mind, he finds out a snowman that he made long ago. He then meets up with Master Belch that represents a fraternity member. Before Belch can offer him to dance to some Dave Matthews music, Ness goes away to check at a shop. He finds out that it only sells pendants and puddings. Strawberry Tofu then shows up, commenting on the store and its product. As Ness wonders about if Strawberry Tofu should be in the show, Tofu reminds him that she could have sued the creators of the show anytime if she wanted to. Ness then meets up with Busdriver and Bus Driver. Later on, he meets up with Pokey, who confesses that Ness is his best friend. Ness keeps exploring until he meets up with Bill Cosby. Bill Cosby then explains to him that he has to go to the Sea of Eden where everything will be revealed to him.
Ness, believing he was sent on a mission from his god ("Bill Cosby God!"), decides to check the Flying Men house for help. The Flying Men offer him support to get to the Sea of Eden and present him with a "jingle" when Ness asks if they have any promotional material. Ness proceeds his first attempt to the Sea of Eden with the Flying Man with the personality of Poo. However, after one fight, the Flying Man gets defeated and Ness retreats back to their house. After being warned about being careful with them by the leader (since they have one less Flying Man than in the game, and the leader is strictly a "desk only worker"), the second Flying Man (who has Jeff's personality) is dispatched with him. After a successful battle, Ness makes a mistake by awaiting a Multi-Bottle Rocket, believing Flying Man was Jeff. This mistake costs the life of the Flying Man, and Ness has to retreat. He then recruits the final Flying Man, who has the personality of Southern Paula. They manage to reach the Sea of Eden until they have to battle 3 Krakens. As the Flying Man uses PSI Freeze γ and Ness uses his PSI Rockin γ, they defeat the Kraken pod at the cost of the final Flying Man's life.
As he reaches the center of the Sea of Eden on his own, he then takes on Ness' Nightmare. Ness' Nightmare tells Ness he cannot win for he and the Sea of Eden is his greatest fear, the fear of being alone. As he attacks Ness constantly, he makes Ness realize how much his friends count for Ness, how Ness is depending of his friends and that without them, he cannot hope to win. As Ness realizes it, Ness' Nightmare attempts to finish him off with a PSI Rocking Ω. However, Ness decides to regain his determination and that if his friends can stay strong for him, he can stay strong for them. As Ness' Nightmare tries to speak through Ness again, Ness starts using PSI Rocking Ω.
The narrator then proceeds with a closing statement, claiming Ness has failed to defeat Ness' Nightmare and died. He explains how soon, his friends, his family, the people he knew and even the audience will soon meet his fate as the show ends. However, at the very end, Ness makes his statement that he is still alive and that he is not gonna give up.
Cultural References
- Ness was told by Tomato to put on some clothes as it wasn't Japan, which is a reference to the fact that Ness is naked in the Magicant level in Mother 2. When the game was localized for North America as EarthBound, this had to be censored (even though you can't really see anything), and so he wears his pajamas instead.
Notes
- The IRC channel was flooded starting when Ness battles his nightmare to when the episode ends.
- This was the last episode to have The Narrator's opening statements.
Quotes
- "Wow, I'm on a mission from God! Bill Cosby God!" -Ness
